The Council of All Beings
Rainforest Information Center
The spiritual blight of separation -- from each other and from the Earth -- plagues modern humanity and is the psychological root of the ecological crisis or our times. The culturally-conditioned, competitive, isolated self is the engine of the 6th extinction spasm currently unfolding around us. The late Arne Naess, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy of Oslo University who coined the term "deep ecology", said that "ecological ideas are not enough"; we need "ecological identity, ecological self" and that ecological identity may be nourished through community therapies: "which heal our relations with the widest community, that of all living beings.".
John Seed has been developing and facilitating such community therapies for more than 25 years. In The Council of All Beings, we participate in a series of experiential deep ecology processes echoing the ceremonies and rituals used by indigenous peoples throughout time to honour the alignment of the human being with the rest of the Earth family. Through experiencing our interconnectedness with air, water and soil, we invite the spontaneous healing of psyche and dissolve the illusion of our disconnection from the living Earth.
